Baoguang Temple

Baoguang Temple, 宝光寺 in Chinese, is located in Xindu district 18 km north of Chengdu, Sichuan province, China.
The early history of Baoguang can be traced back to Tang Dynasty. With an area of 100,000 square meters, the temple is well-known for its architecture. There are more than 400 large stone pillars. The temple houses important cultural treasure including: sharira and a Tang Dynasty (618-907) sharira stupa; a Liang Dynasty (502-587) jade Buddha and stone sharira stupa; a Shu Hang Zang ritual bronze ding vessel; a Tang Dynasty ceramic stupa; a copy of Flower Adornment Sutra (Avatamsaka Sutra) dated back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), made with gold and silver pigment.
The temple was first built during the Tang Dynasty, then it was burnt down during the Ming Dynasty; and rebuilt after the Kangxi Emperor (1654-1722) reign in Qing Dynasty. It is easy to take bus to the temple from Chengdu.
