Xuanwu Lake

Xuanxu Lake, 玄武湖 in Chineses, is commonly known as Hou (RearLake, and it is located outside the Xuanwu Gate in Nanjing. Its circumference is 10 kilometers, with an area of 444 hectares. There are five islets in the lake-Huan, Ying, Liang, Cui and Ling. Their land surface is 49 hectares, one ninth of that of the water. The lake is clear the year round the islets are linked by causeways.
