White Horse Temple

While Horse Temple, Baimasi, is the first Buddhism Temple in China, which was constructed 68AD during Han Dynasty. Located in Luoyang, Henan Province, White Horse Temple is a well-preserved old temple with halls, drum & bell towers, library etc. It was said the Emperor Liuzhuang had dreamt that a shining golden man was flying from west in the palace, so his scholars explained that was the Buddha from ancient India. Therefore, the missionaries were sent to west to invite senior Buddhism monks to come to china. Two senior monks agreed and came to china with their white horses to carry the sutras to Luoyang where the emperor decided to build a temple. In the history, the temple was reconstructed many times but always kept its spirit.
Visitors can view the old sculptures and enjoy the dedicated Chinese traditional architecture.
