Temple of Kun Iam in Macau

Kun Iam in Macau is 观音堂 or 普济禅院 in Chinese. The original temple was built more than 600 years ago. This was the place where, in 1844, the first treaty was signed between China and the USA. There is a small gold lacquer statue depicting Marco Polo (one of the 18 wise men of China) with bulging round eyes, a largish nose, a mustache and a small curly beard. In the garden is the famous intertwined "lovers' tree."
