Commonly known as "Dragon-headHill", Sunlight Rock is the peak of Gulangyu Island and is 92. 6 meters above the sea level. The rock features a huge boulder, 40 meters in diameter, towering atop the cliff as the symbol of Xiamen. On the top of the rock, one can have a panoramic view of the seascapes of the nearby isles and ships. At the foot of the rock there is the Sunlight Temple, also named the Lotus Nunnery. Whenever the sun rises, the rays cast over the rocks and the temple, hence the name.
