Qiongzhu Si in Kunming

Qiongzhu Si (Bamboo Temple), 筇竹寺 in Chinese, is located on Yuan Hill (Jade Table Hill),12 kilometers northwest of Kunming. It was built in 1280 during the Yuan Dynasty. The temple is famed for its500 clay-statues of arhats created by a celebrated sculptor of the Qing Dynasty. It took him seven years (1883-1890) to complete all 500 statues in different poses and facial expressions.
