Po Pagoda in Kaifeng

Po Pagoda in Kaifeng, 繁塔 in Chinese, can dates from 977 AD in the Northern Song Dynasty. Its name comes from being built on Po Terrace. It is most beautiful in spring when its peach trees blossom. The pagoda had nine storeys when it was built but six were demolished in the Yuan Dynasty.lts top was flattened in the early years of the Ming Dynasty and a seven storey small solid pagoda was added atop to present a rare sight in architecture. The pagoda is hexagonal in shape, and it is still 31. 67 meters high. It is covered with thick bricks, on each of which is moulded the pattern of a round niche with exquisitely carved Buddhist images. Along the inside walls of each storey are inlaid stone carvings from the Song Dynasty.
