Pujiu Temple and Yingying Pagoda

Located in Yongji County is the Pujiu Temple which became famous because of a major Chinese novel, The West Chamber, which used the temple as the scene for a love story.
Pujiu Temple was built in 694AD during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty. Inside the temple gate, on a cliff, are three Buddhist grottoes. The west chamber is where the story-book romance took place, unfortunately, it no longer exists due to a powerful earthquake and a later fire. The only building remaining is a square brick pagoda named Yingying, after the heroine of the novel.
