Meng Jiangnyu Temple in Qinghuangdao

The temple is situated 6. 5kilometers to the east of Shanhai pass. Meng Jiangnyu is the heroine of a fairytale. After traveling thousands of miles from the south, she found her husband dead while building the Great Wall. In great sorrow, she wailed day and night. Finally a corner of the Great Wall collapsed.

The temple was built in 1594 to her memory, and has been repaired many times. Inside is a clay statue of MengJiangnyu under a plaque with the inscription, "May her name be known to the hundredth generation."In the backyard is an outstanding rock inscribed with three characters, "Wangfu Shi" (Waiting-for-Husband Rock). The small platform behind the rock is where she dressed herself. The nearby Zhenyi Pavilion was a resting place for the Qing Dynasty emperors who came to visit. Five kilometers to the southeast of the temple are two reefs rising out of the sea. One is in the shape of a tablet and the other, a tomb. It is said that this is where Meng Jiangnyu was buried.
