Guanzhai Mountain

Guanzhai Mountain, 冠豸山 in Chinese, is one of the national key scenic areas! It covers an area of 123 square kilometers, about 1.5 km from Liancheng County. The whole scenic area consists of nine view spots, including Guanzhai Mountain (or Xie Zhi Guan), Stone Gate Lake, Zhu'an stockaded village, Qishi stockaded Village and Jiulong Pond (or Nine Dragon Pond). The fantastic landscape of magnificent mountains and clear waters is no less than a beautiful painting.

Guanzhai Mountain used to be called Xie Zhi Guan Mountain. It looks like a huge official cap in ancient China, which Chinese people called Xie Zhi Guan, or Xie Zhi Cap. According to ancient Chinese folklore, 'xie zhi" a mythical animal, is comparable to the unicorn from Western culture. Xie Zhi has two sharp bright eyes and a horn projecting from its forehead. Xie Zhi is normally of relatively huge size, probably as big as a bull or comparable to the size of a ram. In Chinese culture, it is said to be an animal of conducting justice, because Xie Zhi is able to tell right from wrong in a dispute, or who is justified and who is not in a fight. It is also likely to bite or attack those who should be punished. Out of this reason, 'Xie Zhi" has long since been regarded as a symbol of justice and impartiality. People called Guanzhai Mountain as the mountain of Justice to convey people's wish of fairness and justice in real life. The steep peaks and jagged rocks of grotesque shapes make the mountain look like a blooming lotus. All these highlight the attraction of the mountain.

There are Cangyu Gorge, Songfeng Pavilion, and Lotus slope etc. sites in the mountain.
