The Five Pagoda Temple in Hohhot , known originally as the Vjra-Seat Stupa, is again called the Magic Lantern Pagoda. First built in the 5th year (1727) of Emperor Yong Zheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty, it used to be the stupa behind the hall of the Five Pagoda Temple (the temple is no longer inexistence now). Standing 14. 08 meters high, the Vjra Seat is a square terrace with an arched gate. Built of glazed bricks, the whole stupa contains 1,119 gilded Buddha images and inscriptions in Mongolian, Tibetan and Sanskrit, al lof which are very exquisite. In the center of the northern wall behind the stupa is an astronomical chart in Mongolian side by side with a picture pagoda were done in many languages including Chinese, Mongolian, Khitanese, Jurchen, Syria n and Persian.
