Dunhuang Museum

Dunhuang is a small town in Gansu Province, but it is one of the most important towns on the ancient Silk Road as it is located near the Taklimakan Desert. Since ancient time, Dunhuang played a key role to offer the food, water, camels and horses for everyone who is going to go across the desert, gradually it became a strategic town for the Buddhism.
Dunhuang Museum covers about 2400 sqm and houses the about 4000 relics excavated in this area from early stone age to modern time. Particularly the prosperous period during Han, Tang Dynasty for the impressive grottoes culture. The potteries, porcelains, sculptures and tomb brick carving are very impressive in the museum.
The last exhibition hall displays the urban planning in the future.
The new museum was constructed on the way to Singing Sand Dunes, to replace the old museum that is situated in the city down town.
