Zhangye

Zhangye, 张掖 in Chinese, is the best place in Gansu province as per local saying. Located in central part of Hexi Corridor, Zhangye has a long hisotry that can be tracked back to 4000 years ago. With a population of 1.3 million, Zhangye is bestowed by the Heishui River, the second longest inland river to water the crops so that there are plenty of ruins and temples in the area.
In the city center, the Giant Buddha Temple is a must-see to learn the fabulous Buddhism culture about Zhangye. You can head to Mati Temple to view the splendid Tibetan Buddhism temple. Recent years, the Danxixa Mountain in Zhangye is getting very well-know for its multi colored clays.
