Yuncheng in Shanxi
Located on the middle reaches of TheYellow River, Yuncheng, 运城 in Chinese, is famous for being place where the ancient emperors Shun and Yu built their capitals and is very typical for many tourist spots which have witnessed long periods of history, many legendary stories and plenty of mysteries to its glorious past.
Most of the historical sites are distributed along the Yellow River Valley which include: the · fabulous Murals in Yongle Palace in Ruicheng. Guan Yu's Temple in Xiezhou, The Temple of King Guangren (one of only four existing wooden structures belonging to the Tang Dynasty.) the three famous towers--Feiyun (Flying Cloud) and Qiufeng (Autumn Wind) in Wanrong and Chunqiu (Spring and Autumn) in Xiezhou; Pujiu Temple in Yongji; Dayudu which is believed to be one of the irrigation projects completed by Yu the Great; The Tang-dynasty giant iron oxen which used to be part of the earliest pontoon bridges on the Yellow River; the tomb of Sima Guang (a prime minister and famous historian of the Song Dynasty); the capital of Shun at Puban; and the City of Emperor Yu in Anyi, etc.
