Shanshan

Shanshan is a county under the jurisdiction of Turpan City in Xinjiang，China. The ancient Shanshan was not the modern one, which was a kingdom located at the north-eastern end of the Taklamakan Desert near the great, but now mostly dry, salt lake known as Lop Nur. It was previously known as Loulan Kingdom or Kroran, but was renamed Shanshan after the king of Kroran was assassinated by a Chinese envoy in 77 BCE.
The modern Shanshan is well-known for its dry climate and sweet grapes, wine and melons. The travelers can visit Shanshan Desert Park, and taste the sweet Hami melon while traveling to Shanshan on the ancient Silk Road.
