Tianlong Mountain Grottos

About 40 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan is Tianlong Mountain. It contains eight grottoes on its eastern summit and 13 grottoes on its western summit. The oldest cave was built between 535-549 AD ; most of the others originated in the Tang Dynasty. Most of their sculptures has been damaged. An impressive Buddha statue in Grotto 9 is the best-preserved.
