The four classical novels among Chinese classical novels refer to Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Outlaws Of The Marsh, Journey to the West and A Dream of Red Mansions.
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a historical novel, which describes the military and political struggle among the three kingdoms of Wei, Shu and Wu at the end of East-Han Dynasty and during the period of three kingdoms.
Outlaws Of The Marsh describes the peasant war launched by Song Jiang and others at the end of Northern-Song Dynasty and creates the images of Mount Liang heroes, such as Wu Song, Lin Chong, Lu Zhishen, Li Kui and so on.
Journey to the West is a mythological novel, which is based on the story about Monk Xuan Zang's getting the sutra and folklore and describes the story of Tang Seng, Sun Wukong and others going to the west for Buddhist scriptures and defeating various monsters.
A Dream of Red Mansions was created in the middle 18th century, which describes the declination process of feudal bureaucrat Jia's family and the love tragedy between a young man and woman and which is of very high artistic achievements.
