Fuxi

Fuxi (伏羲) was put at the first place in theThree Emperors in Chinese history and regarded as the ancestor of the Chinesenation. He represented a historical period of our primitive society, the Fuxiperiod. The legend about Fuxihas a long history in China. From the Tangyao,Yushun and Xia, Shang, Zhou dynasties, the people have held up him as the"the ancestor of human". There is also a very mystical story about Fuxi'sbirth. It's said that Fuxi's mother once speed on a huge footprint and gave abirth to Fuxi 12 years later. So the ancient people regarded 12 years as a Ji.So we called Fuxi's birthplace as Chengji. This was the earliest myth aboutcelestial pregnancy. And it reflected the matrilineal society in the ancientChina. What Fuxi looked like on earth? According to the legend, he has a humanhead and snake body. In the forties of last century, Mr. Wen Yiduo testifiedthat "a human head and snake body" actually was the trace of the Chinesenation. And according to the archaeological studies, Tianshui was just thebirthplace of the dragon totem. The earliest lesion of "human head and snakebody" in China was found in Tianshuio. So it was regarded as theembodiment of Fuxi.
