August 1st Army's Day

August 1st is the memorial day for the foundation of People's Liberation Army of the PRC. At the beginning of the democratic revolution, led by Sun Yat-sen, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Chinese Kuomintang were allied. In April 1927, Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) of Kuomintang launched an anti-revolutionary coup d'etat, and wantonly slaughtered communists. Thus, the cooperation of Chinese Communist Party and Chinese Kuomintang broke up. In order to save revolution, about 20, 000 people of northern expedition army, who were influenced by the CCP, led by Zhou Enlai (1898-1976), He Long (1896-1969), Ye Ting (1896-1946), Zhu De (1886-1976) and Liu Bocheng (1892-1986), started up an uprising in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, on August 1st of that year, and gave the first shot to the rulers of Kuomintang, which marked the beginning of Chinese Communist Party leading the armed revolution independently. Shortly after the uprising army took over Nanchang city, it marched toward the southern Guangdong Province, and was finally dispersed by the enemy. A part of the army led by Zhu De and Chen Yi (1901-1972) arrived in Jinggangshan Mountain of Jiangxi Province in Apri11928, joined forces with the army led by Mao Zedong (1893-1976), and then formed the Chinese Red Army mainly consisting of workers and peasants. It was from then that the people's army led by Chinese Communist Party was established. Through the Long March, anti-Japanese War and Liberation War, this army gradually developed and got stronger, and finally became today's People's Liberation Army of China.
On June 26th, 1933, the central bureau of the Soviet area of the CCP made a resolution that August 1st would be set as a memorial day for the establishment of Chinese Red Army. On June 30th, 1933, the central military committee of the Red Army gave a relative command, pointing out that "On August 1st, 1927, Nanchang Insurrection, led by a proletariate party, the CCP, took place. This insurrection was the beginning of Land Revolution against imperialism, and the source of the valiant Red Army."On July 11th, the central authority organization of the revolutionary base area-the Interim Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic ratified the advice of the central revolutionary and military committee that August 1st was adopted as the Army's Day. From then on, when August 1st Army's Day was approaching, various activities to offer support to the army and show respect to their relatives were usually held.
