Xinjiang Tianshan 新疆天山
Tianshan, Heavenly Mountain literally in Chinese, is a mountain range from East to West in China, Kirghizstan, and Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Extending 2500 km, Tian Shan is one of the 7 biggest mountain ranges in the world, 1700 km in China and 800 km in other countries.
Xinjiang Tianshan, located in Xinjiang Uyghur Autaunous Region, China, divides Xinjiang into Northern and Southern parts. The highest peak of Tianshan is Tomur Peak with an elevation of 7443.8m. The huge mountains create various areas with different plants and animals, which tell the changes of the evolution of central Asia, and make a contrast visual landscape between hot and cold environments, dry and wet, desolate and luxuriant.
Since ancient time, human already settled around Tianshan. Today there are still some ethnic groups keeping their tradition nomadic life as tribes living in the yurts including Kazaks, Mongols, Kirgiz etc. Nowadays it becomes very popular to attract travelers to visit Tianshan while travel to China.
In 2013, Xinjiang Tianshan was inscribed on the list of World Heritage by UNESCO. The property comprises four components—Tomur, Kalajun-Kuerdening, Bayinbukuke and Bogda— that total 606,833 hectares.
