Potala Palace布达拉宫
Potala Palace was used by Dalai Lama in the past, and now it is the major attraction of Lhasa. You can view the palace standing on the hill like a fortress to guard Lhasa. The earliest history can be traced back to the 7th century AD, when King Songtsen Gampo built a palace here. Later on, it became the seat of Dalai Lama in the history. The layout of the Potala Palace includes the rooftop White Palace and the central Red Palace. In the Palace, there are numerous paintings, Buddha statues, and stupas for the Holi Relics of Dala Lamas. You have to walk uo a 80m-long slope to start the visit of Potala Palace and it is not allowed to take photos in the building. Normally it takes about 3 hours to visit the Palace. Visitors must hold their passport for the entrance. As the Palace limits the visitor number, it is very difficult to acquire the entrance tickets in July and August when you travel to China. Silkroadtrips can help you book the entrance.
