Mount Taishan 泰山
In 1987, Mount Taishan was inscribed on the listof Cultural and Natural World Heritage by UNESCO.
Mount Taishan, located in the middle part ofShandong province spanning two cities (Tai’an city and Jinan city) with totalarea of 426 square kilometers, was called Daizong in ancient time, meaning theprincipal mountain literally. It was renamed after Mount Taishan in Spring and Autumn Period, and its nickname is Dongyue, meaning the Sacred Mountain of East China literally, was ranked the most important one of the five renownedmountains in China.
Yuhuangding or Peak of the Heavenly Emperor,Mount Tai's highest peak, stands over deep valleys and above other perilouspeaks with an elevation of 1545m. Mount Tai is well-known for The sunrise, Seaof clouds, the aura appearing around Bixia Temple, Rosy clouds at sunset.
Since ancient time, Mount Taishan had alwaysbeeing recognized as holy and sacred place. As the mountain symbolized thepeaceful life and unified country, the emperors always liked to pilgrim to hereto show their homage to the heaven. Even the first Emperor of Qin Dynasty diedafter his pilgrimage to Mount Taishan.
