Xun

The earthen Xun, 埙 in Chinese，is one of the oldest wind musical instruments in China. Archaeological studies indicate that some 8, 000 years ago, the earthen Xun was a hunting weapon. By the Shang Dynasty under the rule of King Yin, the Xun was made exquisitely from stone, bone or ivory. By the Zhou Dynasty, Xun became a special wind instrument in the Chinese concert.
In the Banpo Museum of Xian, you can see the original Xun that was excavated from the ancient village ruin. The sound of the Xun is low pitched and charming to touch your feeling.
