Tiger Balm (Wanjinyou) is a legendary balm for treating headaches, scalds and other minor ailments. It is said that a man named Hu Ziqin left his home in Fujian province of East China and set up a drug store named Yong'antang in Yangon of Burma. His son Hu Wenhu (1882_1954) invented the Tiger Balm, which seemed effective in all sorts of minor ailments. Hu proved to be a smart businessman. He launched promotion campaigns such as "beauty and beast calendar", "tiger car", "new life movement with Tiger Balm" and others that were sensational at the time. Hu also contributed money to build schools and hospitals n China. When Japan invaded China in 1937, the businessman devoted huge sums of money to the fight against invasion. Dubbed as"The King of Tiger Balm", Hu became a much-admired compatriot. Tiger Balm is a perfect example of fragrance treatment. It can instantly wake up one's senses and drive away depression. For many common people, the cheap Tiger Balm is a heaven-sent panacea that promises of fast results. The Tiger Balm has also played a role in foreign relations. Many people in Africa like Tiger Balm. It is said that boxes of the balm can be given as tips or exchanged for small commodities in some African countries.
