Chinese are proud of their ancient civilization and pay special attention to greetings. Some people believe that the more complicated the reception, the more respect they show to the honored guests. At many tourist regions, there are employees working as guards of honor, who are dressed in ancient costumes and perform reception ceremonies as recorded in history. Not everyone has the opportunity to attend a State-level ceremony for foreign dignitaries. But chances are you can find a pair of young ladies dressed with a red cordon standing on both sides of the gate at exhibitions, department stores, restaurants, companies and other places. Wearing a smile, the ladies would bow to guests, saying "we come" or "Thank you". This can make a guest feel rather special. Most of the red cordons are made of a layer of red cloth which is covered by a strip of satin. The yellow words are printed onto the satin instead of being embroidered. Some higher quality cordons re also adorned with yellow tassels. The red cordon worn by a slim young lady is a typical image of numerous businesses across the country.
