Piggy bank

The chubby pig seems to be an ideal image for gathering fortune. There are legends about fat pigs bringing good fortunes to a family. Some rural women have turned the legends into paper cuts featuring a pig carrying a treasure bowl. For the farmers, the pig is indeed a treasure. As they feed the pigs some leftovers every day, the pigs grow fat gradually. By the last month of the lunar year, the pigs are sold or slaughtered, bringing much needed cash and meat to the family preparing for the important Spring Festival. All piggy banks have only one entrance. To get the coins, one would have to smash it. An ancient Buddhist master once composed a poem that says the piggy bank only wanted to hl its stomach with money, knowing little that in the end, it would be smashed and the money be taken out. But the common people seldom think of the irony behind the piggy bank. For them, saving every penny for a content life is all that matters.
